World Taekwondo has announced the creation of the Ad-Hoc Para Taekwondo Poomsae Committee to assist with the development of the discipline for athletes with impairments.

Due to the growth of Para-taekwondo, this panel will study and develop the adaptation of poomsae to different impairment categories.

There will also be a review of the existing rules to ensure that they are fair and transparent for all poomsae sport classes.

Research will also be undertaken to create a method for official World Para Taekwondo poomsae rankings.

The Ad-Hoc Para Taekwondo Poomsae Committee will further study competition formats such as pairs, team and freestyle, and be conscious of promoting the discipline at all times.

Mustapha Moutarazak from The Netherlands will chair the group, with Britain's Said Khelwatty acting as vice-chair, with terms lasting until World Taekwondo's October 2021 General Assembly.

Luciano Mazzeo of Aruba and Russian Nadezhda Petrova are also members of the Ad-Hoc Para Taekwondo Poomsae Committee.

Poomsae, which requires balance and power, is said to be accessible to people of all ages and the discipline sees competitors perform a sequence of taekwondo movements.
