Eleven countries were represented in FISU America Chess, which took place online over a 11-day period.

Daniel Albornoz Cabrera Carlos won the men's title from a field of more than 90 players, with the women's crown going to Elizabeth Toro Castañeda of Colombia from a 80-strong competition.

The event was a warm-up for the FISU World University Championship Mind Sports, which is due to be held from October 26 to 30.

"FISU America Chess was a success with the participation of more than 150 student athletes from 12 countries on our continent and also served as a preparation for the continental teams for the FISU World University Championship to be held later this month," said FISU America President Alim Maluf Neto.

"Special thanks to the entire team of the Organising Committee that did a fantastic job and we hope to repeat this success next year with the second edition."

Brazil, Cuba, Argentina, Mexico, Colombia, Costa Rica, Chile, Honduras, El Salvador, Peru and Jamaica were the countries represented at the event.

Matches were broadcast live on FISU America's Instagram and YouTube channels.
