The Spanish Sambo Championships have been held in Murcia despite the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

There were 27 titles awarded in total, across sambo, combat sambo and women's sambo.

Cristina Casas, one of two Spanish medallists at the 2019 World Sambo Championships, was among the winners.

Casas was triumphant in the women's under-48-kilogram division.

Competitors had to have proof of a negative coronavirus test before travelling to Murcia, where they were tested again before being allowed to enter the tournament bubble.

The event was organised by the Spanish Federation of Olympic Wrestling and Associated Disciplines.

Spain follows Belarus and Ukraine in holding National Sambo Championships at a time when the global health crisis has prevented countless other sporting events from taking place.

The nation hosted the European Sambo Championships last year in Gijón.

David Fernández, a European bronze medallist a year ago, won the Spanish men's heavyweight title in Murcia.
