Reigning International Ski Federation (FIS) Alpine Ski World Cup champion Aleksander Aamodt Kilde has tested positive for coronavirus.

Kilde is now isolating after testing positive for COVID-19 upon his return to Norway.

He had been competing in last week's season-opening World Cup event in Sölden in Austria. 

All other Norwegian national team Alpine skiers tested negative.

"I have mild symptoms and the general condition is good," Kilde said, as reported by VG. 

"I am optimistic about getting well fairly quickly."

The 28-year-old, who is strongest in downhill and super-G, earned last season's overall World Cup title after finishing 54 points in front of France's Alexis Pinturault.

He disappointed in the giant slalom in Sölden, however, failing to finish his first run.

Kilde may be able to compete in the next FIS Alpine Ski World Cup event as it is scheduled for November 14. 

Lech-Zürs in Austria is set to host a parallel giant slalom contest.

Competition is taking place under strict COVID-19 protocol, including a lack of spectators. 

The FIS is also set to introduce a "passport" detailing athletes' health data and COVID-19 test results during the pandemic. 

The system enables athletes to enter their whereabouts information and to record COVID-19-related data.
