Markus Eisenbichler will be looking to retain the yellow bib when he arrives in the Finnish resort of Ruka for two International Ski Federation Ski Jumping World Cup legs.

The German got his 2020-2021 season off to a dream start with victory in Wisla last week – his second career World Cup win.

Compatriot Karl Geiger and Austrian Daniel Huber also impressed, finishing second and third respectively.

Eisenbichler will hope to follow in the footsteps of Severin Freund who was the last German to win at Ruka having triumphed in 2016.

Last year saw Norwegian Daniel-André Tande come out on top on the large hill, finishing ahead of Philipp Aschenwald of Poland and Anže Lanišek of Slovenia.

Tande – a gold medallist in the team competition at Pyeongchang 2018 – will hope to vastly improve on last weekend’s performance in Poland when he finished down in 36th place.

Previous winners at Ruka include Japan’s Ryōyū Kobayashi who won back-to-back competitions in 2018 and Slovenian Jernej Damjan who triumphed in 2017.

Qualifying is due to take place tomorrow before individual events on November 28 and 29.
