Germany’s Markus Eisenbichler continued his dream start to the International Ski Federation Ski Jumping World Cup season by claiming his second successive title in Ruka.

Boosted by last year’s season-opening victory in Wisla last week, Eisenbichler proved too strong again as he landed two jumps over 140 metres to clinch top spot in the Finnish resort.

Eisenbichler recorded the best jump of the day with 146m before registering 141m to secure 313.4 points in an emphatic victory.

Poland’s Piotr Zyla landed distances of 136m and 137m to clinch second spot with 294.1, ahead of his compatriot Dawid Kubacki in third.

Kubacki impressed in qualifying yesterday but was unable to find the winning formula this time around as his jumps of 139m and 132.5 saw him earn 293.9.

Norway had two competitors in the top six with Halvor Egner Granerud finishing fourth with 291.2 and Robert Johansson coming sixth with 275.7.

Sandwiched between the Norwegian duo was Japan’s Yukiya Sato who collected 276.1 courtesy of an impressive jump of 140m.

The top 10 also features Slovenian Bor Pavlovčič, German pair Karl Geiger and Pius Paschke and Poland’s Klemens Murańka.

Last year’s winner Daniel-André Tande of Norway had to be stretchered off after appearing to injury his ankle following a heavy fall.

Eisenbichler’s second victory strengthens his lead in the overall standings on 200 points – 75 more than Zyla in second while Geiger is third on 109.

Ruka is scheduled to stage its second World Cup leg tomorrow.
