Eitberger found herself in second place after the first run of the competition by clocking 41.672sec, with Latvia’s Kendija Aparjode leading on 41.667.

The second run saw Eitberger rise to the top of the standings with a time of 41.666 giving her an overall total of 1min 23.338sec.

She finished narrowly clear of fellow German Natalie Geisenberger, who was 0.072 adrift.

Geisenberger, who also returned to the World Cup circuit this season after giving birth, has finished as the runner-up in the opening four races of the season.

Aparjode dropped from first to third place in the standings after the second run, with the Latvian luger finishing on 1:23.507.

Consistency has helped Geisenberger, a four-time Olympic gold medallist, rise to the top of the World Cup standings, which she now leads with 340 points.

Reigning World Cup champion Julia Taubitz, also of Germany, lies second on 291 points with Eitberger one point further back in third.

Germany emerged as winners in the team relay competition with Eitberger joining forces with yesterday’s men’s winner Felix Loch and the doubles pairing of Toni Eggert and Sascha Benecken.

The quartet topped the standings with a time of 2:23.648.

Austria’s Madeleine Egle, Jonas Mueller, Thomas Steu and Lorenz Koller finished 0.036 behind the winners to finish second.

The podium was completed by Poland’s Klaudia Domaradzka, Mateusz Sochowicz, Wojciech Chmielewski and Jakub Kowalewski, who finished in 2:24.766.

The final FIL World Cup event of 2020 will take place in Winterberg next weekend, with competition scheduled on December 19 and 20.

A sprint competition will feature on the programme at the event.
