Norway's Halvor Egner Granerud has claimed his fifth International Ski Federation (FIS) Ski Jumping World Cup leg in a row following a close battle with Germany's Markus Eisenbichler in Engelberg in Switzerland.

Ranked third after the first round of jumps, a strong second attempt saw the Norwegian move up into gold, taking advantages of missed opportunities from his rivals.

Poland's Piotr Żyła had led the field after the first round, but dropped to the bronze medal after a below-par second round.

Japan's Yukiya Sato, who was second at the halfway stage, suffered a similar fate to fall down to ninth.

Granerud posted the second best second round, ending with a points total of 305.4; while Eisenbichler rose from seventh to second with the best second round in the field, giving him a final total of 303.7.

Żyła held on to the bronze medal by 0.6 points with a total of 296.2, ahead of the consistent Anze Lanisek of Germany in fourth.

Germany's Pius Paschke moved up to fifth from 10th; and was followed by Mackenzie Boyd-Clowes of Canada and Kamil Stoch of Poland in sixth and seventh.

Poland's Dawid Kubacki and Cene Prevc of Slovenia were eighth and 10th, either side of Sato.

Oberstdorf in Germany is scheduled to host the next leg of the FIS Ski Jumping World Cup, set to take place on December 29.
