An exciting conclusion could be in store for the Four Hills Tournament, with fewer than 21 points separating the top three athletes heading into the final event in Bischofshofen in Austria.

The competition, part of the International Ski Federation (FIS) Ski Jumping World Cup, is set to conclude on Wednesday (January 6) after qualifying is held tomorrow.

There have been three different winners through three legs so far - Germany's Karl Geiger and Polish pair Kamil Stoch and Dawid Kubacki.

All three remain in the top five for the series, joined by overall FIS Ski Jumping World Cup leader Halvor Egner Granerud of Norway and Germany's Markus Eisenbichler.

Stoch's victory last time out in Innsbruck, accompanied by his second place in Oberstdorf, moved him up to the top of the standings, 15.2 points ahead of compatriot Kubacki, the winner in Garmisch-Partenkirchen.

Kubacki's third-place finish in Innsbruck also moved him ahead of Granerud in the standings, who fell to third thanks to a poor showing.

The Polish jumpers looked set to miss out on the first leg of the Four Hills in Oberstdorf, before a late decision was made to let them compete.

Granerud sits 20.6 points behind Stoch, but still remains in with an outside chance of winning the series.

The same applies to Geiger, who was also below-par in Innsbruck, falling from second to fourth in the standings, and is a further 4.1 adrift of the leader.

Anže Lanišek of Slovenia remains an outside medal contender, thanks to his second place in Innsbruck, while Poland's Piotr Żyła could also be a contender in Bischofshofen having shown signs of his talent with a bronze in Garmisch-Partenkirchen.

Ryōyū Kobayashi of Japan has also shown signs of improvement in the last two legs, finishing seventh in both.

Kobayashi is the Four Hills champion from the 2018-2019 season.

Kubacki is the defending champion, while Stoch - three times an Olympic champion - has won the Four Hills Tournament twice before.
