After the sport’s shutdown for ten months due to the coronavirus pandemic, the European qualification tournament is being completed in a bubble in Hungary this weekend.

The first semi-final of the day saw Montenegro, fresh from their penalty triumph over Croatia face an Italian side who yesterday edged out Hungary to book their last four place.

Montenegro finished their quarter-final strongly and continued their momentum into their semi-final as they comfortably won 14-10.

The Montenegrins were imperious in attack scoring four goals in each of the first two periods and five more in period three on their way to clinching their place in the final tomorrow.

They will meet Greece, who edged out a Spain side that have reached three grand finals in a row in the previous three seasons by 12-11.

Spain controlled the first two periods before Greece enjoyed a brilliant third with three straight goals helping them take the lead.

Spain showed the qualities that had helped them to three successive grand finals as they twice battled back from two goal deficits to level.

With six seconds to go the crucial moment came when Stylianos Argyropoulos' scored with a shot from six metres to seal the Greeks place in the final.

Two further matches took place in Debrecen today to decide the sides who will face off in tomorrow’s fifth place final.

Serbia, buoyed by a lively half-time address from their coach Dejan Savic, produced an impressive second half to defeat France 10-6 while Hungary scored four unanswered goals in the final three minutes to overturn a two goal deficit and beat Croatia 13-11.
