Athletes are staying in a bio-secure environment at the Inspire Sports Academy in Calamba.

Kirstie Alora, who competed at Rio 2016, was invited along with fellow taekwondo players Kurt Barbosa, Arven Alcantara, Butch Morrison and Pauline Lopez.

All five want to compete at Tokyo 2020, although the nation will be limited to a maximum of four fighters.

Philippine Taekwondo Association secretary general Rocky Samson added that three sparring partners will be in attendance as well as coaches Caloy Padilla, Luis de Mesa and Al Christian de la Cruz.

"Hopefully, by the third week of March, we'll be ready for the Olympic qualifying in Amman in Jordan," Samson said, in comments reported by The Philippine Star.

Lopez won an Asian Games bonze medal in 2018, while Alora won Asian Games bronzes in 2010 and 2014.

This Asian qualifier for Tokyo 2020 does not currently have confirmed dates, having been moved from Wuxi in China to Jordan’s capital Amman last year because of the coronavirus pandemic, before being indefinitely postponed. 

Boxer Nesthy Petecio, the 2019 world champion in the featherweight category, is also one of 30 athletes and coaches at the camp and one of the Philippines' biggest Olympic hopes.

However, Petecio will need to come through a last-chance world qualifying event to reach the Games after being knocked out of the Asian qualifier.

Eumir Marcial and Irish Magno are the nation's two boxers who have already qualified, as have gymnast Carlos Yulo and pole vaulter EJ Obiena.

Jamie Lim, Sharief Afif, Alwyn Batican and Ivan Agustin will represent the karate team at the camp, according to Karate Pilipinas Sport Federation President Richard Lim.

Junna Tsukii and Joane Orbon will soon follow to join the karate team, travelling from Japan and the United States.

Lim suggested that this group could then travel to Turkey in February or March to train and compete there.
