The England netball side are to face an all-star team from the country's Vitality Netball Superleague in lieu of international games against Jamaica, which had to be called off because of the coronavirus crisis.

A three-match series is due to take place later this month, and the teams will battle it out for the Jean Hornsby Cup, named in honour of the first black player to represent England.

England's squad remains the same as that selected to play Jamaica for the Jean Hornsby Cup this month, before COVID-19-related travel restrictions led to the series being called off.

The squad for the All Stars has not yet been announced, but England Netball said it will likely include New Zealander Liana Leota, Malawi's Joyce Mvula and Mary Cholhok of Uganda.

All play club netball in the Superleague, and Leota is a former Commonwealth Games champion.

The best English players not in the national squad are also set to feature.

"After extensive planning and contact with Public Health England, we are delighted to announce these exciting new fixtures which will see elite netball back on our screens," England Netball chief executive Fran Connolly said.

"With all players from both sides already being in the UK before the Government restrictions to travel were introduced, it seemed like a great opportunity to create this unique fixture and get our elite players back on court.

"These games are happening because of a tremendous team effort behind the scenes, and thanks to a strong partnership with the Vitality Netball Superleague clubs who have helped us to bring these special fixtures to life."

Matches will take place behind closed doors, but be shown in the United Kingdom on Sky Sports and the broadcaster's YouTube channel, which is not behind a paywall.

Manchester Thunder head coach Karen Greig is to lead the Superleague All Stars, with Wasps head coach Mel Mansfield and Roses Academy head coach Sheonah Forbes acting ass assistants.

Games are scheduled for January 20, 22 and 24.

England are third in the world rankings and the current Commonwealth Games champions.

The team's last taste of international competition came in the form of a tour of New Zealand in October and November, although England lost all three games versus the reigning world champions.
