The Botswana National Olympic Committee (BNOC) is helping schools step up their efforts in the fight against coronavirus by delivering masks and hand sanitiser.

Donations have been made to several schools across the country with Hatsalatladi Primary School in Molepolole the latest to receive the anti-virus equipment.

Baboni Kupe, business development and strategy manager for the BNOC, was on hand to deliver the donation to the head of the school.

Nanogang Community Junior Secondary School and Bokamoso Junior Secondary School in Gaborone, as well as Parwe Community Junior Secondary School in Mahalapye, have also received masks and hand sanitiser in recent weeks as part of the BNOC’s drive.

As well as sending equipment to tackle COVID-19, the BNOC used the school visits to deliver the Olympic Values Education Programme which contains a series of free and accessible teaching resources created by the International Olympic Committee.

The scheme aims to communicate the benefit of sport and physical activity through an understanding of Olympism and its impact on individual health, enjoyment and social interaction.

Botswana have competed in eight Olympic Games since making their debut at Moscow 1980.

Nijel Amos made history for Botswana when he won their first-ever medal at London 2012, earning silver in the men’s 800 metres.

Botswanan athletes have been set the challenge of winning three medals at the rescheduled Tokyo 2020 Olympics by the BNOC.
