France topped the medals table at the International Judo Federation’s Tel Aviv Grand Slam event after picking up their third gold medal on the final day of competition.

France’s success came in the women’s over-78 kilogram category with in-form Romane Dicko, who has won the last four tournaments she contested, needing just 25 seconds to defeat Portugal’s Rochele Nunes, who had to settle for silver.

Bronze medals in the category went to Maryna Slutskaya of Belarus who defeated Jasmin Grabowski of Germany and world number three Maria Suelen Altheman of Brazil, who also recorded a quickfire victory over Melissa Mojica of Puerto Rico.

In the women’s under-78kg category proceedings were dominated by Europeans with Anna Maria Wagner of Germany defeating Fanny Estelle Posvite of France by hansokumake during golden score.

Bronze medals in the category went to Marhinde Verkerk of the Netherlands who defeated Luise Malzahn of Germany and Karla Prodan of Croatia who overcame Audrey Tcheumeo of France.

In the men’s under-90kg category junior world champion Lasha Bekauri of Georgia showed why he may be a star of the future after defeating Nikoloz Sherazadishvili of Spain by waza-ari to claim gold, leaving Sherazadishvili to settle for silver.

Bronze medals in the category went to Krisztian Toth of Hungary who beat Milan Randl of Slovakia and Beka Gviniashvili of Georgia who defeated Mammadali Mehdiyev of Azerbaijan.

The host nation enjoyed a judoka in the final in the men’s under-100kg with Peter Paltchik making it to the gold medal match.

World number two Paltchik had to settle for silver though after he was defeated by Michael Korrel of the Netherlands who completed victory by waza-ari during golden score.

Bronze medals went to Niiaz Iliasov of Russia who defeated Zelym Kotsoiev of Azerbaijan and Ilia Sulamanidze of Georgia who beat compatriot Onise Saneblidze.

In the men’s over-100kg category Georgia continued their impressive day by taking gold courtesy of Gela Zaalishvili who defeated Tamerlan Bashaev of Russia.

Bronze medals went to Guram Tushishvili of Georgia who beat Aliaksandr Vakhaviak and Jur Spijkers of the Netherlands who beat compatriot Roy Meyer.

France topped the event’s overall medal table with a total of nine medals including three golds.

Second place went to Georgia with 10 medals including two golds while third place went to hosts Israel with eight medals including one gold.
