Topps trading cards has launched a new series celebrating the life and career of Muhammad Ali.

Called "The People’s Champ" the cards are being released on a weekly basis with two offered each Tuesday.

The first two cards in the set feature a young Cassius Clay winning an Olympic gold medal for the United States in the light heavyweight division at Rome 1960 and his subsequent conversion to Islam.

Each card backs offers a write-up on the background of the featured event.

When complete, the collection will have 100 cards and last 50 weeks.

Print runs are based on what is ordered during the seven days each card is available.

Leaf was the last company to produce trading cards of Ali based on his life and career.

Between 2011 and 2016, it did several sets at a variety of price levels and configurations.

Before that, Upper Deck did the high-end Muhammad Ali Master Collection in 2000.

Topps calls the latest collection "a retrospect of the man considered the greatest of all time."

Ali is widely regarded as one of the most significant and celebrated figures of the 20th century and as one of the greatest boxers of all time.

Besides his Olympic gold medal, Ali won 56 of his 61 professional fights

He was the first fighter to win the World Heavyweight Championship on three separate occasions.

In addition, he was known for his social message of black pride and black resistance to white domination and for refusing induction into the United States Army during the Vietnam War.

Ali died in June 2016 at the age of 74 after a long battle with Parkinson's.
