The 2021 season of the Longines Global Champions Tour (GCT) and Global Champions League (GCL) are set to get underway tomorrow in Doha.

Al Shaqab in the Qatari capital is to play host to the season-opening GCT event, which will feature 48 international riders.

Belgium's Pieter Devos, Germany's Marcus Ehning, Dutch rider Maikel van der Vleuten and Pénélope Leprevost of France headline the line-up.

Britain's Scott Brash and Julien Epaillard of France, both previous winners of the GCT Grand Prix of Doha, are also set to compete.

Salmen Sultan A M Al Suwaidi will be representing the home nation.

A total of 16 teams will compete in the first GCL event of the season, including the Doha Falcons.

In line with Qatar's Ministry of Public Health COVID-19 health and safety guidelines, the venue capacity will be restricted to 10 per cent.

Strict COVID-19 precautionary measures will be enforced throughout the event to ensure the safety of riders and spectators.

Competition is scheduled to run from tomorrow until Saturday (March 6).

The event in Doha is the first of 16 in the GCT and GCL season, which culminates with the Prague Playoffs in November.

Last year's competition was severely disrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic.
