Lamparter stormed to victory in the German town, winning the individual large hill and 10 kilometres competition in 23min 11.1sec.

Jarl Magnus Riiber was expected to back up his success on the normal hill but no one could touch 19-year-old Lamparter, who finished 37.1sec ahead of the much-fancied Norwegian and 45.8 in front of bronze medallist Akito Watabe of Japan.

Lamparter’s triumph comes just a month after he claimed gold at the Nordic Junior World Ski Championships.

He becomes the youngest world champion in 32 years - since Norwegian Trond Einar Elden won gold in 1989.

A superb jump of 138 metres helped Lamparter establish a 22-second advantage before dominating the cross-country race.

"Congratulations to Lamparter, he really showed his potential and I was impressed," Riiber said.

"Today I wasn’t better than second but I’m happy to be on the podium once again."

Norway clinched their 10th gold medal of this year’s Nordic World Ski Championships courtesy of victory in the women’s 4x5km relay.

Tiril Udnes Weng, Heidi Weng, Therese Johaug and Helene Marie Fossesholm secured top spot with a winning time of 53:43.2.

It was Johaug’s third gold of the tournament following her success in the 10km freestyle and 15km skiathlon.

The Russian Ski Federation team of Yana Kirpichenko, Yulia Stupak, Tatiana Sorina and Natalya Nepryayeva claimed silver in 54:09.8.

The bronze medal went to Jasmi Joensuu, Johanna Matintalo, Riitta-Liisa Roponen and Krista Pärmäkoski of Finland who clocked 54:29.4.

In the ski jumping, Austria’s Stefan Kraft topped qualifying in the men’s large hill event following a jump of 127m to register 143.5 points.

Norway's Johann André Forfang was second with 142.2 with Germany’s Markus Eisenbichler third with 140.8.

Competition continues tomorrow with final and men’s cross-country 4x10km relay.
