Russian climbers dominated the UIAA Ice Climbing World Cup in Kirov ©UIAA

Russian climbers triumphed in the men's and women's lead and speed finals at the International Climbing and Mountaineering Federation Ice Climbing World Cup in Kirov.

Nikolai Kuzovlev was the first Russian victor after topping the podium in the men's lead final.

He was followed by compatriots Ilia Kurochkin and Georgy Duplinskiy in second and third, respectively. 

Daria Glotova was the winner in the women's lead final as the only climber in the contest to reach the top. 

It was another-all Russian podium, with Maria Tolokonina placing second and Ekaterina Vlasova third. 

Russia were just as dominant in the speed contests, taking all six medals available in the competition. 

Anton Nemov was the men's speed gold medallist.


Danila Bikulov earned silver and Vladislav Iurlov took bronze. 

The winner of the women's speed contest was Natalia Savitskaia, followed by Irina Dubovtseva and Alena Vlasova in second and third, respectively. 

Today's competition brought the first and only UIAA Ice Climbing World Cup in the 2020-2021 season to an end. 

All other events were severely disrupted by the coronavirus pandemic.

Travel restrictions caused by the COVID-19 crisis had impacted on the entry list, but almost 40 athletes from 10 nations still travelled to the Russian city.
