Ibrahim can now look forward to a second round clash with compatriot Rowan Elaraby.

"I didn't think I'd get to play Black Ball because I was the first reserve," said the teenager.

"It’s a big chance and I had to take it.

"I said to myself that I’m not losing anything if I lose, so play and be happy when you play.

"I’m so happy because my mum, my dad, my brother and coaches are here and I hope the Egyptians come and support me."

England’s world number 30 Julianne Courtice made light work of wildcard Nadeen Kotba of Egypt as she cruised to a 11-3, 11-6, 11-2 triumph in less than 20 minutes.

"I haven’t played for so long," said Subramanium after her 11-9, 12-10, 7-11, 11-5 triumph.

"I was very, very nervous to start with, I was down 8-3 in the first game, and I knew how quick and how good a player she is.

"I managed to calm myself down, and played each point, one at a time.

"The fact that she was struggling with the court conditions was helping me, and if I was frustrated as well, I managed not to show it because I didn’t want her to feed off it."

France’s world number 31 Melissa Alves needed five games to defeat Finland’s Emilia Soini, winning 11-8, 13-11, 7-11, 11-5.
