Egypt’s Nouran Gohar has been withdrawn from the CIB Black Ball Squash Open after breaching COVID-19 protocols in place at the Professional Squash Association (PSA) World Tour Platinum event.

Gohar had been scheduled to face Olivia Blatchford Clyne in the third round of the tournament at the Black Ball Squash Club in Cairo.

Blatchford Clyne will receive a bye into the quarter-finals.

A PSA statement did not reveal the nature of Gohar’s breach of the rules.

The organisation stressed that strict protocols are in place at each of their events, with all players and staff required to provide a negative PCR test prior to travelling to a tournament before taking a further PCR test upon arrival.

Once a negative result has been received, that person is then allowed to enter the tournament bubble.

The PSA said that during the tournament, players are prohibited from entering areas outside of the bubble or coming into contact with people who are not in the bubble.

"We have put in place strict COVID-19 protocols at all PSA World Tour events in order to protect the wellbeing of our players, referees and staff," said Lee Beachill, PSA chief operating officer.

"The reaction from the players to our protocols has been phenomenal and their understanding and discipline has played a key role in us not receiving a single positive test for a player across the six events that have taken place since the restart.

"However, we take any breach of these protocols very seriously, so we have had to make the regrettable decision to withdraw Nouran from the tournament.

"Nouran is naturally disappointed but has acknowledged she has made a mistake."

Blatchford Clyne will advance to the quarter-finals, where she will face Salma Hany, who had earlier triumphed in an all-Egyptian battle against Rowan Elaraby.

Hany earned a 13-11, 11-9, 8-11, 12-10 victory.

Defending champion Sarah-Jane Perry cruised through to the quarter-finals after a straight games victory over Olivia Fiechter in Cairo.

Perry, the world number six, controlled proceedings in her last 16 match.

The English star claimed a 11-7, 11-9, 11-6 win over her American opponent.

Perry will face world number one Nour El Sherbini of Egypt after she recorded a comfortable win over Belgium’s Tinne Gilis 11-6, 11-4, 11-7.

Fourth seed Hania El Hammamy, who lost to Perry in the tournament final in December, also progressed to the quarter-finals today.

The Egyptian had come through her previous match in five games, but enjoyed a more comfortable outing this time around.

El Hammamy overcame India’s Joshna Chinappa 11-6, 11-5, 11-6 to book her place in the quarter-finals.

She will now face New Zealand’s Joelle King, who was an 11-5, 11-9, 11-3 winner against Egypt’s Nadine Shanin.

United States’ Amanda Sobhy earned a straight games win over Egypt’s Farida Mohamed, triumphing 11-8, 11-6, 11-4.

Sobhy will face third seed Camille Serme of France who comfortably beat Canada’s Hollie Naughton 11-5, 11-8, 11-6.

The women's event is scheduled to run until March 18, and is set to be followed by the men’s competition from March 19 to 25.

The PSA has confirmed England’s James Willstrop and Mexico’s Cesar Salazar have withdrawn from the men's event.

Willstrop has withdrawn for personal reasons, while Salazar is currently self-isolating after coming into contact with someone who has tested positive for COVID-19.

United States' Shahjahan Khan and Egypt's Karim El Hammamy will replace the pair in the tournament, with the PSA having also amended seedings for the event.
