Italy’s Aaron March and Germany’s Ramona Theresia Hofmeister clinched the respective men’s and women’s overall parallel crystal globes at the International Ski Federation (FIS) Snowboard World Cup in Berchtesgaden.

March captured his first overall title at the age of 34 in impressive fashion in the German resort as he defeated Austrian Alexander Payer by 0.08sec in the parallel slalom final.

Arvid Auner of Austria finished third after edging out Edwin Coratti of Italy by the narrowest of margins in the bronze medal race.

The result saw March move to 424 points, with Austrian Andreas Prommegger second on 339 and Dmitry Loginov third on 333.

March follows in the footsteps of fellow Italian Roland Fischnaller, who clinched last season’s overall crown.

Swiss snowboarder Julie Zogg came out on top in the women’s big final, defeating Germany’s Selina Jörg by 0.06.

"I'm happy to be back on top," said Zogg after winning her second race of the season to capture the parallel slalom crystal globe.

"My season has been very good.

"I have always been in the top 10 and finishing with a victory is incredible."

Carolin Langenhorst of Germany came third after Miki Tsubaki of Japan failed to finish the bronze medal race.

Hofmeister lost at the quarter-final stage to Tsubaki but it was enough to secure the overall World Cup title after her closest rival Sofia Nadyrshina of Russia crashed out in the previous round.

The 24-year-old tops the standings on 593 points with Nadyrshina second on 532 and Zogg third on 512.

The season is due to conclude tomorrow with a mixed parallel event in Berchtesgaden.
