International Wheelchair Basketball Federation (IWBF) Europe has announced the new dates for this year’s rescheduled Men's Under-23 European Championship.

The event was originally scheduled to be held in August 2020 before being moved to January and then postponed again due to the coronavirus pandemic.

It has now been confirmed by the IWBF Europe that the tournament will take place from June 13 to 18 in in Lignano Sabbiadoro in Italy.

The IWBF Europe said it was working with the Italian Wheelchair Basketball Federation and the Organising Committee to ensure "special measures" are taken to protect the health and safety of participants.

Places at the IWBF Men's Under-23 World Championship, scheduled to be held in Chiba in Japan next year, are on offer at the tournament.

Turkey, Germany, Spain, Poland, France, Italy, and Israel are set to fight for the European title, with the top five taking the five qualification spots available for the World Championship.

All players born on or after January 1, 1999 will remain eligible to compete in the event.

The IWBF Europe has also agreed to cancel the Women’s Under-25 European Championship, which was due to take place this year.

The governing body said it was a "difficult decision" but cited a "low number of interested teams" as the reason for the cancellation.
