Roche Pita scored the winning goal in a 5-4 victory in the Group B encounter at Domo Polideportivo.

Cesar Paniagua, Daniel Soltero and Abraham Atri had put Mexico in control before Suriname levelled through goals from Vangellino Sastromedjo, Gillian Maatrijk and Nazario Doesburg.

Suriname went ahead thanks to Eddie Sanchez's own goal but Mexico restored parity shortly after when Paniagua scored his second of the match.

Pita had the deciding say in the game as his late strike handed Suriname all three points.

El Salvador came back from a goal down to beat Cuba and claim their first victory in Group D.

Ricardo Castillo put Cuba in front but goals from Alan Solis and David Sandoval in the second half gave El Salvador the win.

El Salvador are second in the group on goal difference behind the United States, who beat Nicaragua 4-2.

Jeremy Klepal scored twice, while Eduardo Buenfil and Tomas Pondeca also found the net in a hard-fought victory for the US.

In Group C, Canada won their opening match of the tournament after beating Haiti 4-2, while the Dominican Republic thrashed Trinidad and Tobago 6-2 in Group A.

All four semi-finalists will qualify for the FIFA Futsal World Cup, due to be played in Lithuania in September and October.

The tournament is due to continue tomorrow.
