The Netherlands' Anna van der Breggen is looking to win a third race in Spain this month at the 2021 Vuelta a Burgos Feminas, which is set to make its debut on the International Cycling Union (UCI) Women's WorldTour circuit.

The double world and Olympic road race champion of SD Worx will look to build on her back-to-back victories at the Gran Premio Ciudad de Eibar and the Durango-Durango Emakumeen Saria at the four-day stage race, which starts in the northern town Villadiego tomorrow.

This season's race is set to be the first on the Women's WorldTour, having previously acted as a national race for four years before becoming a UCI affiliated race in 2019.

It will be the only Women's WorldTour event set to take place in May due to the cancellation of the new Itzulia Women's stage race and the postponement of the Tour of Chongming Island, now slated for October.

The Vuelta a Burgos Feminas is set to end on Sunday (May 23) at Lagunas de Neila.

Van der Breggen's closest challenger could well be her compatriot Annemiek van Vleuten of Movistar, who is third in the overall tour standings so far this year.

She has also secured two back-to-back Spanish wins at the Setmana Ciclista Valenciana and Emakumeen Nafarroako.

Spanish champion Mavi Garcia of Ale BTC Ljubljana is expected to be the home favourite having finished second to Van Vleuten at the Setmana Ciclista Valenciana and finishing ninth overall at last year's Giro Rosa.

Danish rider Cecilie Uttrup Ludwig of FDJ Nouvelle-Aquitaine Futuroscope could feature too, finishing third at the Durango-Durango Emakumeen Saria.
