Scotland's Bruce Mouat and Jennifer Dodds claimed the gold medal on home soil at the World Mixed Doubles Curling Championship in Aberdeen, after mounting a fantastic comeback against Norway's Kristin Skaslien and Magnus Nedregotten.

Mouat, who skips the national fours team and Dodds, who plays on Eve Muirhead's rink, recovered from a difficult position to secure the win.

Despite scoring two in the opening end, Norway scored three and two with the hammer to go 5-3 up at the halfway stage.

Heading into Scotland's final end with the hammer, they were one point down - but Dodds swept hard to knock the remaining Norwegian stone in the house out, giving them three and leading by one.

Although Norway had the hammer in the last end, they could not stop Scotland who set up a great buffer and stole another, winning the match 9-7 and with it the gold medal.

Earlier in the day, Sweden's Almida De Val and Oskar Eriksson won the bronze, defeating experienced pair Kerri Einarson and Brad Gushue of Canada 7-4.

Eriksson, who was mixed doubles world champion with the now-pregnant Anna Hasselborg in 2019, made it on to the podium again with his new partner De Val.

They defeated Einarson and Gushue, who have both represented Canada in the traditional four-person team World Championships.

In the first end, De Val was able to draw her last stone into position to give Sweden a hard-to-beat 4-0 lead.

Canada would respond with good draws to score one and steal another to bring it back to 4-2.

However, Sweden replied with another two points, giving them a 6-2 lead - one that Canada would not be able to fully reel in.
