Ukraine's debut at an International Surfing Association (ISA) World Championship has been hailed as a milestone which will "immediately effect the development of surfing in our country".

The Ukrainian Surfing Federation (USF) in April became the ISA's 109th member nation, and sent three athletes to the World Surfing Games in El Salvador.

In the women's contest, Anastasiia Temirbek went in heat eight an finished with a score of 3.07, finishing fourth.

The heat was won by Peru's Pan American Games champion, Daniella Rosas.

Iaroslav Dombrovskyi and Vasiliy Kordysh were in men's action and while both also finished fourth, simply making the journey to El Salvador to compete represents a triumph for the Ukrainian surfing, according to Kordysh, who is also USF President.

"It's a big honour for us to be here representing our country for the first time in this absolutely amazing event," Kordysh said.

"We’re beyond stoked.

"It's amazing to feel all this Olympic spirit, especially for the surfing community in Ukraine.

"Our participation here will immediately effect the development of surfing in our country.

"It will encourage more young generations to pick up and experience the sport.

"This is why we are here, to show them how we can move forward and progress."
