Argentina were hoping to build on their 1-0 win over France yesterday and made a bright start by taking the lead in the opening half against Thailand.

Thailand scored twice in quick succession to turn the match around before the break.

The second half saw the match swing back in favour of Argentina, with the South Americans scoring three goals to take a comfortable lead.

A penalty in the last second of the match proved only a consolation for Thailand, with Argentina winning 4-3.

Thailand have now been involved in two high-scoring matches, after beating Spain 3-2 earlier this week as they prepare for their Paralympic debut at Tokyo 2020.

Hosts Japan appeared on course for a third consecutive 1-0 victory in the second match of the day.

Spain levelled the score with two minutes remaining of the contest, however, with the European champions securing a 1-1 draw.

Japan will play their final round-robin match tomorrow when they face Argentina, with Spain set to play France in the other contest.

The Blind Football Grand Prix is the first IBSA-sanctioned competition since November 2019 and features five of the eight qualified teams for Tokyo 2020.

Teams are competing in a round-robin format with the two best-ranked sides contesting the final, scheduled to be held on June 5.

No spectators are at the event as part of organisers’ measures to combat the spread of COVID-19.

Tokyo is under a state of emergency after Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga agreed to extend the strict measures until June 20 to help curb COVID-19 cases.
