Brazil triumphed 25-17, 28-26, 25-19 to go clear at the top of the standings on 24 points, as they recorded their eighth win from nine matches.

Behind them the standings are increasingly congested with four countries including Poland on seven wins.

Poland and France both have 21 points, with the French overcoming Canada 20-25, 25-21, 25-22, 25-17.

Also on seven wins are Slovenia, who today came from behind to defeat Russia in five sets 19-25, 25-23, 22-25, 25-20, 15-8.

The match was notable for Slovenian player Klemen Cebulj scoring 32 points in a single game, the joint second highest behind in men's Volleyball Nations League competition behind China's Jiang Chuan, who scored 37 points in a win against France in 2018.

Slovenia sit on 19 points level with Serbia, who defeated the United States in four sets 25-23, 25-17, 19-25, 27-25.

Three countries have five wins, including Russia and Iran who were beaten in another match that went the distance by Germany 23-25, 25-20, 25-19, 19-25, 15-13.

Japan also have five wins to their name but just 13 points, and they today suffered defeat at the hands of Argentina who won 30-32, 25-16, 25-18, 25-21.

Germany have 13 points but just four wins to their name.

In the day’s other matches Bulgaria beat The Netherlands 25-18, 18-25, 17-25, 25-22, 15-13, Italy overcame Australia 25-20, 25-22, 25-14 and France defeated Canada 20-25, 25-21, 25-22, 25-17.

The men’s competition takes a three-day break with the women’s competition scheduled to resume tomorrow.

The US, who top the women’s competition, will be seeking to stretch their unbeaten run to ten games tomorrow, when they face Belgium.
