Sport shooters will be hoping for a great result at the next leg of the World Shooting Para Sport World Cup in Lima in Peru, with the event acting as the final chance for athletes to qualify for the the rearranged Paralympic Games in Tokyo.

It is the second and final World Cup leg before Tokyo 2020, following the cancellation of the Wrocław event which was scheduled to take place in April.

Competition is set to start tomorrow and run until Friday (June 18) at the Las Palmas Air Base Shooting Range.

A total of 18 qualification slots for the Paralympics are up for grabs at the event.

It will be the first World Cup to take place in Peru and the biggest international Para-shooting event since the capital hosted the 2019 Parapan American Games.

A total of 157 athletes from 44 nations are expected to compete in 23 medal events with Chile, Costa Rica and Egypt set to make their World Cup debut.

Thailand's team is set to be the biggest with 14 athletes, while Russia and the United States will take 11.

One of the top names expected to participate will be Ukraine's Vasyl Kovalchuk, who is due to defend his mixed 10 metre air rifle prone SH2 title at Tokyo 2020.

In Peru he is set to compete in that discipline, as well as the mixed 10m air rifle standing SH2 and the mixed 50m rifle prone SH2.

Another Ukrainian Paralympic medallist will be in attendance - Oleksii Denysiuk.

He is set to compete in the mixed 25m pistol SH1 and the mixed 50m pistol SH1 - events where he is a world champion from 2019 - as well as the men's 10m air pistol SH1.

The host's hopes will fall on the shoulders of Jorge Arcela, the silver medallist in the mixed 10m air rifle prone SH1 at the Parapan American Games on home soil.
