GB_Bobsleigh_in_action_Dec_10December 14 - British Bobsleigh has vowed to "leave no stone unturned" in its bid for a podium place in the 2014 Winter Olympics after being awarded £2.42 million ($3.81 million) by UK Sport.

Following the announcement of the cash boost during UK Sport's Annual Spending Review last week, the board of British Bobsleigh said in a statement: "British Bobsleigh, post-Vancouver, has made huge changes to its World Class Performance Programme and the new board recognised that these changes were much needed.

"We would like to thank UK Sport for their commitment to British Bobsleigh and are delighted they have shown confidence in our plans for the next Olympic Cycle.

"British Bobsleigh now has one objective and that is to reach the podium in Sochi 2014.

"We will leave no stone unturned in this quest.

"This investment award will allow us to operate on a world class basis and really compete on a technical level with the leading nations.

"British Bobsleigh has always needed the level of funding that is now available to be competitive and as an organisation - we realise that it is now down to us to prove that point.

"We will continue to operate on a 'no-compromise' approach to performance and continue to constantly challenge athletes to be the best in the world.

"Everyone now expects us to deliver and we will do everything in our power to achieve success at international level, both in the run-up to Sochi and beyond."

British Bobsleigh chairman Andrew Ridgway said: "The British invented the sport and we have a number of excellent athletes who can be the best in the world.

"Bobsleigh is the F1 of winter sports and I believe we can deliver podium places in Sochi 2014."

Funding for bobsleigh will be predominately for the women's programme but UK sport will continue to review the men's performance at various stages throughout the next four years to see if they are eligible.

Britain's women's bobsleigh team are currently ranked in the top 10 in the world.
