September 25 - Australia's former captain captain Paul Gaudoin (captain) has returned to the team as assistant coach, it has been announced.



Gaudoin will join Graham Reid in assisting coach Ric Charlesworth for the next three years ahead of the 2012 London Olympics.
 

Charlesworth said the 34-year-old Gaudoin, a member of the Australian team that won Olympic bronze medals ay the 1996 and 2000 Games, will bring a range of new skills to the coaching team.
 

Charlesworth said: "He is a thoughtful hockey brain, he is contemporary and offers a different set of skills which complements us.
 

"[He] is someone with his own mind and who will speak out which is important."

Gaudoin was first selected to play for Australia in 1994 at the age of 18, and his rapid rise was capped with selection in the World Cup team of that year in Sydney.

He became the ninth Australian hockey player to play 200 international matches, reaching the milestone during the Commonwealth Games gold medal match against New Zealand in Manchester in 2002.
 

The Kookaburras will compete in the Hockey Champions Trophy in Melbourne starting in November but Gaudoin will not join the coaching staff until the start of next year.
