The city of Pereira in Colombia will be the epicentre of this major event organised by the International University Sports Federation (FISU) - the Pereira Risaralda - FISU World University Championship Finswimming 2024.

The first meeting of the FISU International Volunteer Programme (IFVP) took place on 18 December and on 20 December the FISU Springboard Programme for 2024 had its inaugural meeting.

The logo of the University Volleyball Championship, held in Braga, Portugal, has won the competition for the best image of all the EUSA tournaments held in 2023. Chosen by the fans with 400 votes out of more than 2,500, it came out on top among the 15 logos that took part in the initiative.

For four days, educators from Baylor University and the University of North Carolina joined members of ten schools and four universities in Punjab to support a project aimed at empowering young women and providing them with resources to increase their social relevance. 

The event will take place in Val di Zoldo, a town in northern Italy, from 18-21 December, marking the inaugural winter sports event in the history of the European University Championships (EUC) following the conclusion of the summer phase with 19 competitions across the continent.

Members of the Executive Committee of the European University Sports Association (EUSA) had their final meeting of the year, where a review of the successful year took place, and preliminary approval was granted to nine universities as Associate Members.

Registration is now open for next year's European University Games, which will take place in Debrecen and Miskolc from 12-24 July 2024. It will be the seventh edition of the event and the first to be held in Hungary (the 2026 edition will be held in Salerno, Italy).

From February 2024, FISU will have one more sport in its program, Ski Mountaineering. This decision was made this week with the formal approval of the organization after receiving the green light in July, following a meeting in Chengdu, China.

Professor Dr. Ashraf Sobhy won the award for Best Sports Service in Africa at the African Sports Awards organized by the Association of African Sports Confederations (UCSA). This recognition was bestowed in acknowledgment of his contribution to the Best Sports Service in Africa.

The Chinese Taipei University Sports Federation (CTUSF) visited the FISU headquarters in Lausanne, Switzerland, this week to present its current initiatives, projects, and future challenges for the promotion of sport in universities.

The first call for proposals for the BRAINSTORM project launched by the Organising Committee of the World University Winter Games, to be held in Turin from 13 to 23 January 2025, has been already closed. This will be the seventh time that the event will be held in Italy, following Sestriere 1966, Livigno 1975, Belluno 1985, Tarvisio 2003, Torino 2007 and Trentino 2013.

Following the designation some time ago of Lenzerheide, in the southeast of Switzerland, as the host of the FISU 2024 University World Championship Ski Orienteering, with just about a month to go, 150 competitors from over 15 countries are expected.

On November 30, the European University Sports Association hosted an insightful EUSA-NUSA online meeting in the form of a webinar, focusing on the upcoming 2023 European Universities Winter Championships, the 2023 European Universities Games, EU funding opportunities and relevant organisational updates.
